NEW! Canada Revenue Agency Fuel Charge Program now open

Print this Article

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) wants your business to be ready for Canada’s carbon pollution pricing system. On July 1, 2019, the CRA began administering a fuel charge on certain businesses that produce, distribute and use certain types of fuel in the Nunavut and the Yukon.

Your business may need to register and/or pay the fuel charge if you:

  • Distribute, import, emit, produce or use certain types of fuel;
  • Burn combustible waste to produce heat;
  • Operate an aircraft, marine vessel, railway locomotive, or transport truck/vehicle.

The fuel charge was implemented on April 1, 2019 in Manitoba, New Brunswick, Ontario, and Saskatchewan. If you are already registered with the CRA for the fuel charge, you do not need to register again. As of July 1, 2019, your fuel charge payments will now need to include your activities in the Nunavut and the Yukon.
