Consultation for Transportation of Dangerous Goods Client Identification Database

Print this Article

In 2016, Transport Canada received funding to implement a Transportation of Dangerous Goods Client Identification Database (TDG CID) as a means to improve oversight of the transportation of dangerous goods in Canada and support better risk management. TDG CID is also being developed to address recommendations from the Office of the Auditor General and Transportation Safety Board to improve knowledge and awareness of its transportation of dangerous goods stakeholder base.

Public safety depends on Transport Canada knowing who is transporting dangerous goods in Canada, as well as knowing where, when, and how these goods are being transported. This is why Transport Canada is proposing to introduce a new requirement for businesses involved in the importing, offering for transport, handling, and transport of dangerous goods to identify themselves and provide basic information on their dangerous goods activities.

From February 19 to April 16, 2018, Transport Canada is offering online and face-to-face consultations. The purpose of these consultations is to present the proposed policy approach and discuss potential requirements associated with the implementation of TDG CID. Transport Canada would like feedback in these early policy development stages to ensure that TDG CID is implemented in the most efficient and effective way possible.
