Currently, several U.S. jurisdictions on the Eastern seaboard have exempted fuel delivery companies from the hours of service legislation for their truck drivers. Should Canada follow suit?
 
On December 19, the CPA filed comments pertaining to the release of a final report that examined alternatives to Enbridge Line 5, a critical link for transporting natural gas liquids – including propane – from their source to final markets in Michigan, Canada and surrounding U.S. states. 
 
The Government of Canada plans to put in place Clean Fuel Standard (CFS) Regulations under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999, to reduce Canada’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The objective of the proposed regulations is to achieve 30 Mt of annual reductions in GHG emissions by 2030, contributing to Canada’s effort to achieve its overall GHG mitigation target of a 30% emission reduction below 2005 levels by 2030.
 
 
   
Later this month, the CPA will continue the fight to have propane included in the Ontario Green Commercial Vehicle Program (GCVP). The CPA will be meeting with officials from the Office of Premier Wynne. This meeting follows previous discussions with the Office of the Minister of Transportation (MTO). 
 
On December 15, the CPA met with the Ontario government to discuss the association's Rural Propane Retrofit Program (RPRP). CPA's Ontario Director, Government Relations, Peter Maddox and Susannah Robinson from Superior Propane met with Adam Shedleztky, Chief of Staff to Environment and Climate Change Minister Chris Ballard and Parminder Sandhu, the Chair of the Green Ontario Fund.
 
On December 13, CPA Board Chair Dan Kelly and CPA’s Ontario Director of Government Relations Peter Maddox met with the Ontario Government’s Parliamentary Assistant for Energy and MPP for Ottawa-Vanier, Nathalie Des Rosiers.
 
On December 4, the Government of New Brunswick announced that it would be investing up to $234 million over the next five years in energy efficiency programs for homes, businesses and public spaces that will aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, create jobs and save money.

The Canadian Propane Association regrets to announce that Peter Maddox, Director, Government Relations, Ontario left the CPA on January 5, 2018. The CPA thanks Peter for his excellent work over the last six years and wishes him the very best in his future endeavours.

The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) has significantly tightened the eligibility requirements for individuals and companies to hold oil and gas licences and approvals.
 
The Alberta government recently announced that the Carbon Competitiveness Incentive Regulation (CCIR) will replace the 10-year-old Specified Gas Emitters Regulation (SGER) as of January 1, 2018, and be phased in over three years. 
 
On December 14, the Government of New Brunswick introduced legislation that would adopt the federal government’s intensity targets for large industrial emitters, requiring them to be among the cleanest in the country or pay to offset their pollution.
