A series of five environmental audits released by Auditor General of Ontario Bonnie Lysyk on November 22, 2021, details a pattern of government ministries “going about their duty to safeguard the environment half-heartedly, or shirking it entirely, while deliberately taking steps to avoid public scrutiny.”

For some time, the CPA has been advocating for the fair treatment of propane under the federal carbon pollution pricing system. Under the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act (GGPPA), the government applies a price on pollution in “Backstop jurisdictions” that do not have their own system (Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario). Until now, using propane was at a disadvantage relative to using gas and diesel, which are exempted under the GGPPA for agricultural application.

CPA staff and Atlantic Canada members held several meetings in late November with senior government officials in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, as well as Abegweit First Nation in P.E.I.

The second part of the CPA’s sponsorship of HGTV Canada’s Rock Solid Builds is set to begin at the end of January.

The CPA was once again very active before and during Auto Propane Day, which took place on December 9, to promote and raise awareness about this critical automotive energy source.
