On November 12, 2019, CPA President and CEO Nathalie St-Pierre and Ontario Government Relations Director Marcelline Riddell met with the Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks’ staff to seek support for the CPA’s proposed propane cylinder recycling program. This meeting followed the minister’s support of the program and direction to brief his staff to advance the program on September 13, 2019.

The CPA recommended the program be limited to cylinders of less than 5 lbs and/or to non-refillable cylinders. The Association also outlined the state of propane cylinder recycling today, focusing on the value of propane cylinders and the fact that the industry is a longstanding re-user and recycler of refillable cylinders.

The minister’s staff understood the issue and identified potential markets that would benefit from this kind of industry-led program, including music festivals and other events where small propane cylinders are utilized.
