Loose brake caliper bolts, and electric and natural gas defects have prompted Daimler Trucks North America to recall more than 8,600 heavy duty trucks and bueses. The company told the National Highway Safety Administration that is unaware of any accidents or injuries sustained as a result of these defects.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is set to expand its current "off-site safety audit" from 10 test states to all 50 during the next 12 months. The move will speed up audits of new entrant property carriers, and will in some instances eliminate the need for field investigators.

Marking the eighth straight month for orders above 40,000, FTR Transportation Intelligence reports orders for North American Class 8 trucks have topped 43,000 for October. This brings the number of orders for new trucks in 2018 to more than 500,000, due in large part to continuing high freight volumes and tight capacity throughout the past 12 months.
