This month's member spotlight is Rebecca Drake, our FASBO Vice President.
Q: What is your name, school district, and position?
A: Rebecca Drake, Marion County Public Schools, Supervisor of Payroll
 
Q: What drew you to this role, and how did you get started in this field?
A: I began part-time work in the payroll field when I was in school. Payroll or any kind of Business Management was not my original career path, but it fit. So I changed my major, and here I am.
 
Q: How long have you been a member of FASBO?
A: 12 years
 
Q: Why did you join the organization?
A: I was introduced to FASBO through my former supervisor. She was a long-time member and knew this was the best organization for someone in our field to join.
 
Q: Who/what inspires you?
A: My team. They work very hard and support each other always. They are the reason we succeed!
 
Q: How do you define success?
A: Success to me is knowing that when colleagues think of me, they think of someone who is helpful, honest, and has integrity.
 
Q: Favorite place you’ve traveled?
A: I have been to so many wonderful place here and abroad. This time of year reminds me of the trip we took a few years ago to Germany and France. It was late November, so we were able to see lights and explore the Christmas Markets.
 
Q: What would be the theme song of your life right now?
A: "Happy" by Pharrell Williams

Conference News
During November's conference, Ryan Smith was presented with the Outstanding Business Official award. He is the Director of the Business Support Center at Broward County Public Schools, where he leads a team of over 95 professionals supporting 239 school and district locations. Ryan focuses on modernizing business services, improving financial operations, and enhancing the employee and customer experience across the district.
 
With a strong background in multi-site leadership and operational strategy, Ryan brings over 20 years of experience from his work with the YMCA and other large organizations, where he led transformative initiatives in finance, technology, and team engagement. He is passionate about creating efficient processes, fostering a positive workplace culture, and supporting the district’s mission to serve students and staff effectively.
 
Earning this distinguished award is an outstanding career achievement. This notable accomplishment reflects Ryan's dedication and expertise, and we offer our sincere congratulations!
