Recognizing the importance of attaining professionalism for school business officials, not only with regard to acquired knowledge and experience, but also in terms of the recognition and respect of peers and other professionals, FASBO’s Board of Directors established its Professional Certification Program in 2009.
The Florida Association of School Business Officials (FASBO) is accepting nominations from its membership for the FASBO Outstanding Business Official award. The award recognizes an outstanding FASBO member who exemplifies professionalism, leadership and innovation in the field of school business management. The award winner will be recognized by FASBO at the annual conference. In addition, the winner will be recognized by the Southeastern Association of School Business Officials (SASBO) at their annual conference in April. A team of past Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) Eagle Award recipients from SASBO will assist the winner in preparing an application for the ASBO International or Pinnacle awards.
FASBO is always looking for stories to help fill our bi-annual magazine, Florida School Business. You're the experts of your field - and we would like you to share new innovative solutions and ideas with your peers. In continuing SASBO’s goal to improve education through the support and professional development of business personnel, we have created the Expert Exchange. The Expert Exchange consists of monthly online seminars that will allow you to not only listen and watch, but also ask questions of the presenters and other SASBO members. What is the cost? Sessions are offered at a flat fee of $200 for SASBO members for all nine sessions. Just need a few hours? SASBO members may purchase one (1) recorded session for $49 or select three (3) for $99. What if I can’t make it for a session? No problem, as we know the unavoidable situations occur. If you are not able to participate on the date of the webcast, you will receive an email to view the recorded session when your schedule permits.

In February 2018, the tax tables were updated and most Americans saw an increase in their take home pay. This excited some people and frightened others as many of us we were unsure how the Tax Cut and Jobs Act (TCJA) was going to play out when filing taxes in 2019. Payroll professionals across the U.S. spent a lot of time in 2018 reaching out to their employees to help educate them on how the Tax Cut and Jobs Act (TCJA) could affect their 2018 tax return. Now that W-2s have been issued for 2018 and returns are being accepted, what are the results? Well....it really depends on each taxpayer’s situation.
Florida currently gives bonuses to highly effective teachers who also scored well on their college entrance exams. DeSantis wants to eliminate the college entrance exam requirement from the "Best and Brightest" program. DeSantis's proposal would cost the state more than double the current bonus program. The Republican governor also wants $10 million to pay the college tuition of teachers who agree to teach in Florida for five years.
CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Gov. Ron DeSantis has announced that he will issue an executive order eliminating Common Core education standards from Florida schools.
DeSantis wants to streamline standardized testing, as well as increase the rate of literacy in schools. |
