Association News

The March/April issue of Fencepost is now online. Catch up on the latest ways to market your business, whether it's through digital channels or the old tried-and-true ways, in our cover story, "Getting the Word Out: Marketing Strategies to Boost Your Fence Business." Read about the AFA Education Foundation's fundraising efforts in "The 'Race to 250k' is on!" and the latest innovations in stains and paints in "Weather or Not." These are just a few of the many interesting articles found in the latest issue of Fencepost.

The magazine has a new look and fresh content to help AFA members stay informed on the latest association news and industry information. You will be able to read Fencepost on your desktops, tablets or smart phones and stay in the know! The digital edition contains the same articles, images and ads as the printed copy in a convenient format that mimics the print version. We're excited to bring you this improved version of Fencepost and would like to hear your feedback. Contact the magazine's editor-in-chief at editor@americanfenceassociation.com.

This year, AFA will be producing its first-ever membership directory, complete with association information, tools aimed to make your job easier, and contact information on AFA fence contractors, suppliers, distributors and manufacturers. This valuable member benefit is a further extension of the networking offerings AFA already provides - information on members from east to west coast will be available at your fingertips. The 2016 Membership Directory & Resource Guide will be a critical resource members and industry professionals will use throughout the year to build connections and find trusted AFA partners. Participating in this communication piece is the perfect way to brand your company image to AFA members and within the growing fence industry. Your advertising support enables us to produce a quality communication tool for AFA members, which helps keep our industry strong and growing. Your chance to reach AFA members through our 2016 Membership Directory and Resource Guide is coming to a close. The deadline to secure your advertising position is Wednesday, May 4, 2016. For more information, download our media guide or contact Paul Walley at pwalley@naylor.com or 417-326-2091.

To compile the listing portion of this membership directory, we are creating a Member Verification System (MVS), a portal where you as an AFA member can log in and update your information for the print directory as well as for AFA’s records. This portal has been created to make updating your information as simple as possible. When you receive notice of this from AFA, please take a few moments to review your listing and make sure your information is accurate and up to date. We hope you’ll find this additional member benefit to be as valuable as we know it will be. Keep an eye out for future communications from AFA on this matter.

Respectful treatment of all employees at all levels is the most important factor contributing to employee job satisfaction, according to the SHRM Employee Job Satisfaction and Engagement survey.

Is a work-life balance out of reach? A recent Ernst and Young survey revealed that 24 percent of American working employees said that their work-life balance is getting harder to manage. While many workers may think a healthy work-life balance is unattainable, we don't.

When you run a small business, you know how critical it is that you offer your customers multiple payment methods. And even though it costs you money to accept credit cards, it is pretty much mandatory in today's movement toward cashless commerce. In 2014, U.S. consumers purchased over $4 trillion worth of goods and services via credit card debt, and 40 million new credit accounts are being issued every year.

Globally there are 100 million small businesses. They are your electricians, plumbers, carpenters, gardeners and painters. Although important, managing cash flow is where it can get challenging. For many small business owners, hand-written invoices are still very common. Many still drive-around to drop-off invoices and collect checks.
