Even as the country’s economy slowly comes back to life, top medical experts have warned that there could be a second wave of COVID-19 cases once more people come into contact with each other and in the fall when colder weather arrives and the regular flu season begins again. So, how should contractors prepare for a potential second round of COVID-19? Construction Dive talked to a variety of industry experts for guidance.

Construction employment declined in the District of Columbia and every state except South Dakota in April, an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America of new government data shows. At the same time, the association released a new survey that finds that rising project cancellations are forcing many firms to furlough or terminate employees even as federal relief measures help avoid further job losses. Association officials urged Washington officials to act quickly on measures like new infrastructure funding, liability protections for employers and extending the Paycheck Protection Program.

For the first time in more than two weeks, Dallas County is not reporting any new deaths of people infected with COVID-19 and the number of new cases is the lowest seen in nearly a month. Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said on Monday the county was reporting 171 new cases of the virus, the lowest number seen since April 29, and that there were no new deaths to report. "Today's numbers continue a trend of lower cases than we saw last week and we have a Memorial Day present in that no deaths have been reported," Jenkins said. "Whether this trend continues and we move from our current status of red "Stay Home, Stay Safe" to orange is up to all of us."

TEXO Safety has created this online training module – in both English & Spanish – to assist with the awareness training of COVID-19 required for compliance. Resources used to create the training were collected from OSHA, CDC, World Health Organization (WHO), and Texas Health and Human Services. This training will assist in providing information, understanding and guidance on how to protect yourself and others from COVID-19 exposures. Additional OSHA standards training may also be required. Each participant will receive a certificate via email showing completion of their training in the topics listed above.
