The new federal government named and swore in new cabinet ministers just ahead of publication of the October issue of the CWWA bulletin. The changes were highlighted in last month’s Water Haller. Parliament reopened on November 22, with the speech from the throne scheduled for the 23rd. We’ll have a detailed analysis of the Speech and the governments priority in the next bulleting. In the meantime we’ve recapped the cabinet appointments below.

Of the 38 cabinet ministers named, only 7 were re-assigned to their old post, including Deputy P-M & Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland and Minister of Justice/AG David Lametti.

Key positions influencing water and wastewater policy include:

  • Minister of Environment and Climate Change: Hon. Steven Guilbeault, a former environmental activist we anticipate a strong climate mandate under his leadership.
  • Minister of Health: Hon. Jean-Yves Duclos,
  • Minister of Agriculture and Agri-food: Hon. Marie-Claude Bibeau.
  • Minister of Emergency Preparedness: Hon. Bill Blair
  • Minisiter of Public Safety: Hon. Marco Mendicino.
  • Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities: Hon. Domenic Leblanc
  • Minister of Indigenous Services: Hon. Patty Hajdu
