Preliminary NPRI data for 2016 now available; ECCC continuing to consult on future changes

Preliminary 2016 NPRI Data is now available for the purpose of engaging reporting facilities to review their submitted data and signal any necessary corrections or updates. Reviewed 2016 NPRI data will be made available once the annual quality control process is complete. The following proposals for changes to NPRI were the subject of recent consultations:
  • proposed changes for chlorinated alkanes; 
  • a proposal to add unit-level reporting requirements for releases of criteria air contaminants and mercury from electricity generation; and
  • a proposal to update the list of Part 5 speciated volatile organic compounds.
A proposal regarding NPRI reporting for releases less than one tonne for Part 1A substances has been completed and is planned for inclusion in the NPRI notice for 2018. For more details re: ongoing discussion of proposals to change the NPRI, visit:
