The 5th Wheel
CTA in Action: Government Affairs Update

Throughout the 2019 legislative session, CTA’s contracted public relations firm, Miller Public Affairs worked with CTA to execute a public affairs and advocacy campaign surrounding Assembly Bill 5 (Gonzalez). While the strategic messaging of CTA’s campaign was adjusted throughout the legislative session to optimize various opportunities during the year, our strategy was to aggressively convey:

- Who California’s independent owner operators are
- How AB 5 threatens more than 70,000 independent truckers
- Why it is important for California to maintain the owner operator model

To view the AB 5 Public Affairs Efforts memo click here.

For more information contact Eric Sauer at esauer@caltrux.org.

Due to the recent passage of AB 5, we have put together an AB 5 FAQ that answers the most common questions owner operators may have on the impact AB 5 will have on them and the action CTA is taking to prevent the application of the "ABC" test to the trucking industry. Please share the document with any owner operators you know. View FAQ

Dear CTA Intermodal Conference Members:

Following up on our meeting last week at Price Transfer, click here for comment letters to be sent to the FMC by you and your company in conjunction with the Comment Period for their Interpretive Rule on Detention, Demurrage and Per Diem. As discussed, you can simply insert specific examples into the letter and send via email to secretary@fmc.gov no later than October 31st. In addition, please select in the first paragraph which Ports you do business in.

We would also ask that you please send copies to me at alex@ekapr.com, so that we can keep a record of all letters submitted.

Thank you again for your efforts.

Best,

Alex Cherin
