Earlier this week CTA held its California Trucking Day in Sacramento. Over 100 CTA members registered to attend the event which is by far the most the Association has had in years. Members who did attend were not disappointed, maybe a little because of the hot weather, but were treated to an all star slate of speakers.

To aid in the effort to bring supplies and fuel to areas affected by Hurricane Harvey, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the State of Texas have lifted several trucking regulations to cut down on red tape and smooth the flow of goods. To read the full story, click here. 

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) will begin enforcing the electronic logging device (ELD) mandate requirements on Dec. 18, 2017. The out-of-service criteria (OOSC) associated with the ELD mandate will go into effect on April 1, 2018.

Participate & Advocate- Become the Voice of Trucking. Attend CTA’s Fall Policy Committee meetings and Executive Council meeting October 11 – 12, 2017 at CTA Headquarters in Sacramento. You do not need to be a member of a committee to attend.

The second edition of the California Trucking Show is coming up very soon. It will be hosted at the Ontario Convention Center on October 14-15. With over 200 vendors offering trucks, parts, tires, insurance, truck repair, tools and more plus free seminars from authorities such as the FMCSA (ELD Regulations) and CARB (Truck and Bus regulations Q&A), this is something you don't want to miss.

In March of 2017 the Air Resources Board adopted a resolution to return within 12 months with concepts for regulating impacts from large freight facilities including seaports, railyards, warehouses, and distribution centers. ARB will hold their first public workshops on this initiative

A member of the California Highway Patrol will speak at both the Northern and Southern Safety Council meetings next month on the ELD mandate. Both meetings will take place on Tuesday, September 19.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those displaced or impacted by Hurricane Harvey. This historic storm has been nothing shy of catastrophic. Efforts to rescue those in need and provide shelter are well underway. And, preparation for reconstruction are already being planned. The trucking industry is answering the call to be sure Texans have everything from food, water, blankets, clothing, medicine to materials for rebuilding their cities, towns and homes.
