CTA has received a few inquiries from some member carriers requesting further clarification on how HM securement laws are being enforced by the CHP. In response to the inquiries and in an effort to provide its members with the best information, CTA has reached out to the California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Golden Gate Division and has requested that an additional HM securement information session be presented to interested members.

What is a Terminal Access route? Terminal Access (TA) routes are stretches of State or local highways that a local government or Caltrans has granted access to STAA (Surface Transportation Assistance Act) trucks. TA routes allow STAA trucks to (1) travel between "National Network" (NN) routes, (2) reach a truck’s terminal, or (3) reach a location where fright originates, ends, or is handles in the transportation process.

At the Commercial Vehicle Safety Summit (CVSS), on October 13, the CHP will present the Safe Transportation Achievement Recognition (STAR) Awards. The STAR awards are an opportunity for the CHP to recognize drivers and motor carriers for their commitment and exemplary efforts to maintain a high level of highway safety. These awards will be presented by Commissioner Joe Farrow during the General Session Lunch at the Commercial Vehicle Safety Summit. The application and criteria to be considered for an award can be found on the CHP's CVSS event webpage. Applications must be received no later than August 31, 2017.

California Trucking Association members are "The Heart of Trucking" is CTA’s Annual Membership Conference theme for 2018. The conference is scheduled for January 19-22 at the Monterey Plaza Hotel in Monterey, CA. During the conference and throughout next year, CTA will be highlighting its units’ and individual members’ contributions to communities, charitable organizations, and people in need.
