The 5th Wheel
Government Affairs Update

A few months back CTA was made aware of issues some heavy specialized carrier members were encountering with San Diego County’s new transportation (move) permit policies.

In addition to new fees, the County was taking several weeks to process permits.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is accepting applications for a new task force that will look into truck leasing agreements and whether predatory arrangements affect driver safety.

Applications to serve on new task force accepted through May 6.
Since 2017, settlements under the Private Attorney General Act (PAGA) have reached more than $5 billion and are set to double over the next 5 years.

While many legislative measures aimed at fixing PAGA have been unsuccessful, a better, more direct way is now available in the form of the California Fair Pay and Employer Act.

CTA members have contributed nearly $70,000 for this effort but more is needed.

Group Asks for Personal Conveyance Limits
PrePass®

Career Center

Merced College is a midsized community college located in California’s Central Valley. Founded in 1962, the college serves more than 16,000 students, with room to expand on its 267-acre main campus and 120-acre Los Banos site, as well as at our innovative Business Resource Center in Downtown Merced. The City of Merced, incorporated in 1889, offers historical sites, affordable housing and access to the Bay Area and Sacramento. Merced is known as the Gateway to Yosemite National Park and the Sierra Nevada mountains, and is home to the University of California’s newest campus, UC Merced. Our tree-shaded, growing community of just over 80,000 includes multiple biking and walking trails as well as access to several lakes — large and small — throughout the county.
