Officer Position at CTA (Secretary of CTA)

Attention: All CTA Members

From: Dick Coyle, Chair of the CTA Nominating Committee

On behalf of the CTA Nominating Committee, I would like to follow up on a decision made by the committee at the recent CTA Annual Membership Conference (AMC) as it relates to the position of CTA Secretary.

As you may know, the position of Secretary at CTA is categorized as one of the 'principal officer' positions within the association.  As such, the individual holding this position is also a member of the Officers Council of the CTA.  In terms of the position itself, the Secretary oversees the keeping of the association minutes and other records, and fulfills other duties as required by statute.  The Secretary also serves as Parliamentarian and may delegate these duties to the CEO of CTA, as appropriate.

At the present time, there is a vacancy for the position of Secretary of CTA, and by copy of this email, I would like to invite any CTA member (carrier or allied) interested in this position, to express such interest no later than February 17, 2017 in the following manner:  1) Provide an email to CTA CEO Shawn Yadon (syadon@caltrux.org) by close of business on February 17, 2017 expressing why you are interested in serving as CTA Secretary, and your background of involvement with CTA historically at the unit, policy and/or statewide level that would qualify you as a candidate for this position; 2) As an attachment to that email, a copy of your current resume.

Please understand  the availability of the CTA Secretary position at this time, is for the remainder of CY 2017, and the position quite possibly may not be filled and approved until the June meetings in Southern California.  Also, candidates must understand that serving as the CTA Secretary is for a one year term (and in the case of 2017, a partial year term), and there is no assurance the individual will serve beyond the original term, or be elevated to any higher CTA officer position.  All such decisions reside with the CTA Nominating Committee and are considered and decided upon each year.  Upon receiving responses from interested individuals, the CTA Nominating Committee shall review and decide which individuals will proceed for further consideration.  All individuals who respond will receive a notification about their status in a reasonably short timeframe, and your patience and flexibility are appreciated.

As you know if you attended the recent AMC, this is an exciting time at CTA with many compelling issues and matters before our industry.  I look forward to working with the Nominating Committee as we look to fill one of our principal officer positions.

All the best,

Dick Coyle
President, Devine Intermodal
Chair, CTA Nominating Committee
