ELD Clarification

CTA has received a few inquiries regarding the soon to be implemented Electronic Logging Device regulation and its applicability to intrastate only operators. The rule (currently) only applies to interstate operating carriers. Per Section 350.331 Title 49 Code of Federal Regulations, California has 3 years to adjust California statutes/regulations to be compatible with federal regulations. The final ELD rule was published on December 16, 2015, so California won’t have to have Title 13 updated until 2018. Additionally, the compliance date in the Federal regulations for the ELDs is December 18, 2017.
