EVP NOTES

Happy 2017 to all of you!

As we begin a new year, it presents both excitement and challenges in the coming months. The exciting news is Pest Ed was a huge success this year with some of the largest turnouts ever. Many thanks to Univar and the many other sponsors for making the workshops as informative and interactive as possible. One of the important functions of PCOC is to ensure that our membership has regular access to continuing education and training opportunities. While it was a great way to begin the year, we know there will be legislative and regulatory challenges down the road and your participation will be key to protecting our industry. Again, I look forward to working with all of you!

Chris Reardon

Executive Vice President

IN THE NEWS

Assist us In Keeping Rodenticides in the Hands of Professionals

Take the PCOC/NPMA Rodenticide Stewardship Training Course and earn CEUs.

Commensal rodents are among the most significant public health pests that transmit disease, contaminate foods and damage infrastructure. Because of the substantial risk that rodents pose to our health and safety, their control is essential. Second generation anticoagulant rodenticides (SGARs) are an advanced and indispensable tool that provides quick and complete management of rodent populations. SGARs require educated and trained professionals who have the knowledge and expertise to apply these products.

In an effort to mitigate rodenticide exposure to non-target wildlife, the State of California strictly limited the use of SGARs to professionals only. To further our industry’s dedication to stewardship of rodenticides, the Pest Control Operators of California and the National Pest Management Association have teamed up to develop a two-part training course. This 60-minute course focuses on strategies and methods that will instill knowledge above and beyond state and federal educational requirements for the handling and application of rodenticides. Instructional topics include the importance of rodent management, commensal rodent biology and behavior, integrated rodent management, and the safe handling and application of anticoagulant rodenticides. To access this training click here.

MEMBER NEWS

Happy 2017!

I am sure many of you made New Year’s resolutions and I am sure some have already been broken (I have already given up on two of mine). I am hoping that you can make a few new ones to benefit PCOC.

1. Attend your District meetings and get involved with your district.

2. Attend Legislative Day.

3. Attend Expo (a chance to see Mickey Mouse).

4. Call me with a new member lead.

A big thank you to Univar for two wonderful Pest Ed days in Southern and Northern California. It was my first experience and I enjoyed meeting members and reaching out to non-members. I would also like to thank the wonderful women who attended our first Women’s Council meeting in Palm Springs. We had over 20 attendees and our numbers have continued to grow. This is a new adventure for PCOC and I look forward to working with the staff at PCOC and Sylvia Kenmuir to help promote the Council. If you would like to be involved, please email me.

I look forward to traveling again to the districts to promote our new insurance benefit starting with the Santa Clara District. Please contact me with any questions and I will forward the contact information. Finally, our Association is only as strong as our membership. While we strive to reach goals, we can only accomplish them with your help. Get involved today.

MEMBER VALUE PROGRAM

The PCOC Benefit Plans Have Multiple Plan Offerings and Are All Guaranteed Issue

If you would like the flexibility of multiple plan offerings with extremely competitive rates, look no further than the ‘Guaranteed Issue’ medical plans offered through PCOC; ‘Guaranteed Issue’ means that no one can be denied insurance because there is no medical underwriting. At open enrollment each November for a December 1 effective date, one has the ease of making a plan or carrier change because of the flexibility of choices - Kaiser and Western Health Advantage, HMO, PPO and HSA plans. If you are currently a member of PCOC, new or existing, and have not taken advantage of the opportunity to enroll in one of these plans, now is the time to do it.

The Association offers two Delta Dental plans, allowing members a choice. The low option plan keeps a member’s out-of-pocket costs to a minimum with co-pays for some procedures. The high option plan allows the member to go to any dentist whether in or out- of-network.

Medical Eye Services administers the vision plan offered by the Association. For very little premium, you can get frames, lenses, contacts and vision exams covered with a small co-pay.

Our billing administrator, American River Benefit Administrators, continues to accept automatic withdrawals directly from your checking account. The Ames-Grenz staff will be available to answer any of your questions concerning open enrollment month. Please contact us at 916-486-2900 or email us at info@amesgrenz.com or go to our website, www.amesgrenz.com.
