This month CMSA and others celebrate the contributions and commitments of case managers who serve in many different capacities throughout the U.S. health care system. Case managers help fulfill multiple roles, from managing a patient’s health and working with providers and payers to making sure limited resources are distributed and used appropriately. It often can be a demanding and stressful job, but also one that is extremely rewarding.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the start of the Medicare Open Enrollment on October 15th, ending on December 7th.  CMS encourages people with Medicare to review their current health and prescription drug coverage options for 2014.  Medicare’s Open Enrollment is not part of the Affordable Care Act’s new Health Insurance Marketplace, and people with Medicare do not need to do anything with Marketplace plans.

The ICM Training Program, offered through CMSA, enables case managers from either medical or mental health backgrounds to better assist patients with barriers to improvement in any complexity domain by transitioning to a holistic assessment and assistance approach.
The Case Management Foundation recently announced a sponsorship opportunity for Sections 1 and 2 of CMSA's ICM Training Program.  The Foundation is pleased to announce the 2013 sponsorship recipients:
  • Heather Hardy, Lafayette, LA
  • Wesley Willis, Bronx, NY
  • Constance Saunders, Honolulu, HI
