Case management is not a one-size-fits-all profession. Whether you are just beginning your journey, expanding your clinical and strategic skill set, or leading change across systems of care, your educational needs evolve over time. At CMSA, our education is intentionally designed to meet case managers where they are—and help them grow confidently into what comes next.
Building Strong Foundations: Education for New and Emerging Case Managers
For professionals new to case management—or those transitioning into the role—CMSA’s Novice Pathways courses provide a critical starting point. This education introduces the fundamentals of case management practice, care coordination, and transitions of care while reinforcing the role of case managers across settings and systems.
Designed for novice case managers, students, and healthcare professionals new to the discipline, Novice Pathways helps build confidence, establish shared language, and create a strong foundation for long-term professional growth.
Advancing Practice: Integrated Case Management Training
As case managers deepen their expertise, CMSA’s Integrated Case Management (ICM) Training offers an opportunity to move from foundational knowledge to advanced, applied practice. Registration is now open for the Spring 2026 ICM Training, a comprehensive live, instructor-led virtual program based on the Integrated Case Management Manual (2nd Edition).
ICM equips participants with strategies to engage clients, stratify risk, and develop integrated care plans that address both physical and behavioral health needs. Through a combination of self-study and interactive virtual sessions—including communication exercises, role-play, and case study evaluation—participants gain practical skills that can be immediately applied to complex patient populations. The program supports case managers across practice settings and experience levels while offering 28.5 RN, SW, and CCM continuing education credits.
Expanding Perspective: Education at the CMSA Annual Conference & Expo
For case managers seeking both depth and breadth, the CMSA Annual Conference & Expo offers education designed to reflect the diversity of practice settings, roles, and experience levels across the profession. Conference sessions are intentionally developed to ignite conversation, inspire innovation, and deliver actionable strategies that support both individual practice and system-level improvement. Educational sessions span a wide range of topic areas—from ambulatory case management and health equity to leadership, technology, behavioral health, and value-based reimbursement—and are clearly identified by Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, and Universal experience levels. This allows attendees to tailor their learning experience while also exploring new perspectives and areas of growth. Continuing education credits are available for RN, SW, CCM (including Ethics), CDMS (including Ethics), CRC (including Ethics), CNLCP, and CPQH.
A Professional Partner for the Entire Journey
From first steps into case management to advanced practice and leadership, CMSA’s education is built to support the full professional journey. Through foundational courses, advanced training, and immersive conference learning, CMSA remains a trusted partner—helping case managers grow their skills, expand their impact, and stay connected to a profession that continues to evolve.
