Leo L. Beranek, an engineer whose company designed the acoustics for the United Nations and concert halls at Lincoln Center and Tanglewood, then built the direct precursor to the internet under contract to the Defense Department, died on Oct. 10 at his home in Westwood, Mass. He was 102.

The awards ceremony features a multi-media presentation of all submissions and winning projects. September existing home sales, including single-family homes, town homes, condominiums and co-ops, soared to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.47 million from August's downwardly revised 5.3 million, up 3.2 percent month-over-month, the National Association of Realtors reported on October.
