Drought and water issues will be top priorities in this year's legislative session. The most ambitious drought bill is being pushed by Gov. Jerry Brown, Senate Pro-Tem Darrell Steinberg and Assembly Speaker John Perez. The Democratic plan does not address long-term improvements to California's water supply and distribution system. Rather, it proposes $687 million to provide immediate assistance to launch local water recycling and conservation projects while providing housing and food assistance for the driest communities.
