Proposed FDA Rule on the Sanitary Transportation of Food

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has proposed another key component of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). The proposed rule would apply to shippers, receivers, and carriers who transport food in the U.S. by truck or rail, both in interstate and intrastate commerce. The rule has a number of provisions.

Drought and Water Issues Top Priorities in 2014 Session

Drought and water issues will be top priorities in this year's legislative session. The most ambitious drought bill is being pushed by Gov. Jerry Brown, Senate Pro-Tem Darrell Steinberg and Assembly Speaker John Perez. The Democratic plan does not address long-term improvements to California's water supply and distribution system. Rather, it proposes $687 million to provide immediate assistance to launch local water recycling and conservation projects while providing housing and food assistance for the driest communities.

AB 32 Scoping Plan Update Released

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) released the second version of the AB 32 Scoping Plan Update (SPU) on February 10, 2014. The original scoping plan adopted in 2008 included strategies to meet the 2020 goal of greenhouse gas emissions at no greater than 1990 levels.
