On February 25th, 2015, Senator Burr introduced the "Supporting Academic Freedom through Regulatory Relief Act", which was read twice and referred to the Committee, as a companion to Congresswoman Foxx's bill of the same name. The bill, co-sponsored by nineteen senators, (Mr. Grassley, Mr. Isakson, Mr. Tillis, Mr. Cotton, Mr. Hatch, Mr. Alexander, Mr. Roberts, Mrs. Fischer, Mr. Flake, Mr. Scott, Mr. Cassidy, Mr. Portman, Mr. Cornyn, Mr. Rubio, Mr. Enzi, Ms. Murkowski, Mr. Capito, Mr. Daines, and Mr. McCain) calls to prohibit the Secretary of Education from engaging in regulatory overreach with regard to institutional eligibility under title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, and for other purposes.
