Less than a month remains for your school’s students to apply for scholarships generously funded by the Sydell and Arthur Miller Family Foundation. Five scholarships totaling $45,000 will be awarded to four cosmetology students and one esthetics student. Winners from the inaugural Miller Family Foundation scholarship competition have been featured in national media outlets like American Salon and even launched their dream business. The second full week of January finds 43 state legislatures actively meeting.  As 2019 state legislative activity of interest to AACS member schools continues to build, we will continue to keep you apprised of developments from across the country.    

Last week, House and Senate bills were introduced in Virginia to reduce the course of instruction required for cosmetology licensure from 1,500 to 1,200 hours.  SB 1568 has been referred to the Senate General Laws and Technology Committee.  The identical House counterpart, HB 2335, was referred to the House General Laws Committee. 

A state Gainful Employment bill – HB 1124 – sponsored by Washington State Representatives Pollet (D-Seattle) and Frame (D-Seattle) was scheduled for a public hearing yesterday…

Increase student enrollment and retention with a nationally certified admissions staff. AACS Online Training Center, offers your admissions team the opportunity to earn the Certified Higher Education Professional (CHEP) certification. 

Institutions that utilize the AACS Online Training Center are able to provide training opportunities for their admissions team to earn and maintain the CHEP certification.
