State Hour Reduction and Gainful Employment Bills Introduced

The second full week of January finds 43 state legislatures actively meeting.  As 2019 state legislative activity of interest to AACS member schools continues to build, we will continue to keep you apprised of developments from across the country.    

Last week, House and Senate bills were introduced in Virginia to reduce the course of instruction required for cosmetology licensure from 1,500 to 1,200 hours.  SB 1568 has been referred to the Senate General Laws and Technology Committee.  The identical House counterpart, HB 2335, was referred to the House General Laws Committee. 

A state Gainful Employment bill – HB 1124 – sponsored by Washington State Representatives Pollet (D-Seattle) and Frame (D-Seattle) was scheduled for a public hearing yesterday…
