Deadline for all institutions of higher education with programs subject to the existing gainful employment regulations are required to submit gainful employment data for the 2017-2018 Award Year to the National Student Loan Data System by Monday, October 1, 2018. As detailed in Electronic Announcement #117, institutions can submit the information through one of the following:
AACS continues to seek revocation of this regulatory requirement. In our response to the Department’s request for comment on the GE Notice of Proposed Rulemaking we requested that based upon the Department’s clear intent to rescind the eligibility requirements debt-to-earnings metrics, but the request for this data was moot. We are also in the process of working with Congressional offices to relay the same message to the Department. AACS will continue to update you on our progress throughout the week. Despite the fact that such data may never be used to determine debt-to-earnings metrics, the regulatory data reporting requirements remain in effect for Monday, October 1, 2018.
The Annual Meeting of the AACS Membership will take place on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. during the 2018 Annual Conference in Orlando, FL. Find the formal notice and review the proposed By-Laws changes that were posted on the AACS website on September 21. Please send your comments regarding By-Laws to AACS Executive Director, Kathy Chow, at kathy@beautyschools.org. The Member Comment Period ends October 6, 2018.

Oregon’s Higher Education Coordinating Commission conducted a rulemaking hearing last week on proposed cosmetology curriculum updates. Specifically, minimum training requirements for hair design programs will be reduced from 1,450 hours to 1,100 hours between April 1 and July 1, 2019. A separate requirement of 250 hours of career development, and safety and sanitation instruction, would also be eliminated by the rule. Member Events
