Educators from around the country left Las Vegas this week feeling recharged, enriched, and empowered to go back to their classroom with new techniques and ideas. The 2018 CEA & AMP Annual Convention was packed full of a variety of classes – from teaching methodologies, hands-on barbering skills, the latest in skincare technology, and new approaches to admissions and marketing (plus so much more).

Congratulations to the 2018 N.F. Cimaglia Educator of the Year winner, David Jones-Estrella. David was presented with the award this weekend at the CEA & AMP Annual Convention in Las Vegas, NV.

David is an educator at the Hollywood Institute of Beauty Careers, Orlando, FL. His enthusiasm, passion, and optimism stood out among the many quality applicants that were received.

Starting August 1, the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation will accept applications for 4 fall scholarships – including the new Unapologetic You scholarship sponsored by European Wax Center. Summer scholarships for Amazing Lash (esthetics) and CND Master (nails) will close August 13 and September 15, respectively. Information on all scholarships is available here.

The combination of the summer and political seasons – with 6,066 legislative seats up for grabs this November in 46 states – has greatly reduced state legislative activity in July.  With only two state legislatures meeting this week – Maine and Massachusetts – this update will depart for its usual format and instead review key 2018 state bills of interest to AACS members schools.  Please note that the list provided may not include every bill impacting your school.

Serving as a Director is one of the most important ways that you can support and sustain AACS. Our Directors have the responsibility to provide foresight, oversight, and insight for the Association. They serve as our primary ambassadors, advocates and the conscious voice of our Members. Our Board of Directors should reflect the highest aspirations of our businesses, our students and our industry.

The nomination period for the October 2018 election of the AACS Board of Directors is now officially open. There will be three (3) School Member seats and one (1) Partner Member seat open for this election. Nominations will be accepted through tomorrow, July 20th, 2018.
