Early Testing is Coming to Illinois

Late last month, Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner signed in to law a bill to allow early testing. HB 4883, effective January 1, 2019, will allow prospective barbers and cosmetologists to test after completing 1,200 hours of instruction – which is 80 percent of the required course of study. Similarly, applicants for licensure as an esthetician will be allowed to take the licensure examination after completing 600 hours of instruction and applicants for licensure as a nail technician will be permitted to test after completing 280 hours of instruction.
