An avatar Christmas

2020 has been a year of playing it safe so it's interesting that so many members took a risk registering for a strange event concept, so hard to imagine. There were times when we couldn't tell who was speaking to who (the avatars' mouths don't move), and avatars walking right through other avatars but it all added to the unique experience. It was particularly entertaining when a colleague walked into the Christmas tree — she eventually resurfaced.

It was beautiful to hear members' voices, and fun to watch their avatars running into the ocean, and kicking a soccer ball around.

The Christmas Committee didn't want everything to be virtual; each attendee received a goodie box compliments of Sterling IAQ Consultants and Ultra-Tech Cleaning Systems. Staff at BOMA and SDM Realty Advisors were thrilled to have human contact as people collected their gifts from our offices.

Our virtual platform allowed us to deliver live prizes and activities. Two electric bicycles were the grand prize (sponsored by Mott Electric), and they drew a lot of interest. A 55" TV, $825 to spend at Burrowing Owl's Guest House and an Xbox were also popular prizes.

Congratulations to Paul Connors and Iqbal Sivia on winning Polycrete Restoration's two rounds of trivia.

Big thanks to the following members who also supported the event: HSR Zero Waste; GuardTeck Security; Johnson Controls; QuadReal Property Group; LPI Mechanical; Paladin Security Group and Trane Canada West.

And the event certainly wouldn't have been a success without so many members taking a leap of faith on a rather unusual event. Just like this past year, it was unique and will go down in the BOMA history books.
