CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE

Dear BOMA New York Members,

I’m proud to report a record breaking first quarter of the year.  Highlights include - the monthly Lunch and Learn program has sold out in January and February – the recent 48th Annual Pinnacle Awards at Pier Sixty hosted nearly 900 professionals as we celebrated the industry’s best – and we recently enjoyed an exclusive and captivating tour of Grand Central Terminal. Recently, we released the 2019 Partnership Packet exclusive for BOMA NY members. We encourage your company to participate and reserve your seats in advance for all 2019 events.

Don’t miss out on multiple opportunities to advance your career in commercial real estate.  We have a great curriculum of BOMI six-week and accelerated courses, as well as a popular Green and Wellness program throughout 2019.

The BOMA NY Codes and Regulations/Government Affairs Committee advocate on behalf of the CRE industry to ensure that the power of our collective voice is heard.  Some of the items to pay attention to include – The New York City Department of Sanitation continues to mature its commercial waste franchising program – The city and state continue to wrestle with its goals to minimize greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions – Now that the Federal government is in full operation, we expect to hear from the EPA regarding the new Energy Star rating system and how it correlates to efficient commercial buildings in New York City.

BOMA NY and its Board of Directors are committed to BOMA NY’s mission.  From networking to educational programs and from advocacy to special cause issues – BOMA NY is there, adding value every day.  Thank you for your continued engagement and collaboration.  It is you and all BOMA NY members that nurture professional excellence and are an integral part of our continued success.

I hope to see you at the next BOMA NY event.

Sincerely,
Hani J. Salama, PE, LEED-AP
President of BOMA New York

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) recently launched their efforts to create and implement commercial waste zones (often referred to as commercial waste franchising). They are fast-tracking the environmental review process, cutting it close to the regulatory mandated bare minimum time to review and comment on their documents.  The following is some background to help understand this rare and strategic move.
