GET TO KNOW SHARON HART, ACCOUNT DIRECTOR WITH CUSHMAN & WAKEFIELD

How long have you been a BOMA New York member and how did you first get involved with the Association?
I’ve been a BOMA New York member since 2011.  Prior to getting involved with BOMA New York, I was a BOMA Southern CT Board Member.  In total, I've been involved with BOMA for about 15-years due to the recommendation of a former colleague.  I attended a few events and classes and I was hooked.  BOMA offers education for the CRE Industry, as well as networking and mentoring opportunities that I couldn’t find elsewhere.

Congratulations on winning a Pinnacle Award for Corporate Facility of the Year this year.  Can you take us through the process and how it benefits the building, staff and tenants?
Thank you.  Our entire team, as well as myself, were truly honored and proud to win the Pinnacle Award for Corporate Facility this year.  The process is intensive and includes months of preparation and documentation for the submittal.  That said, it was an excellent opportunity to memorialize all the great aspects of our building, best practices, its operational team and valued tenants.

What are some of your responsibilities as a member of BOMA New York’s Board of Directors?
As a Board member, my role is to support the excellent staff at BOMA New York (Bobbi, Ami, Becky, Daniel) and to represent BOMA New York’s initiatives, education and events to my company and colleagues.  BOMA New York offers a wealth of information regarding the real estate market, city policy, codes and regulations.  I look forward to being a part of BOMA's continued growth best practices for managers and building owners.

Are you part of any BOMA New York committees? If so, please explain which committee and your role?
Yes, along with my work on the BOMA New York Board of Directors, I also serve on the Pinnace Award Sub-Committees for both the Historical Building and New Construction categories.  Both committees participate in the comprehensive review and on site judging for the annual Pinnacle Awards.

Do you think being a BOMA New York member has influenced your role as an Account Director at Cushman & Wakefield?  If so, how and is there anyone specific to thank?
Yes, being a BOMA New York member has absolutely influenced my role as an Account Director at C&W.  A few of my mentors include past presidents Vincent Fantauzzi and Lou Mantia.  I’m fortunate to have worked with both of these remarkable professionals.  They encouraged my early involvement with BOMA and introduced me to many of my colleagues with whom I work with and sit on the Board with.

If you could give some advice to someone starting out in the commercial real estate industry, what would you share with them?
Get involved with BOMA New York and their educational offerings.  This will provide a practical base of knowledge for you to nurture and build your career.  Also, never be afraid of taking on a new challenge.  It usually results in the most wonderful opportunity and amazing adventure.
