CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE
Dear BOMA New York Members, It gives me great pleasure to announce that BOMA New York is now accepting applications for one additional company representative from our Allied and Professional member companies. This exclusive New York only membership includes the following benefits: Recognition in/and access to the local BOMA New York membership directory, ticket to the Annual Membership Event in September, participation in local committees, access to Members Only Section on local website which is coming soon, access to local e-newsletter – BOMA Facts – as well as the BOMA International industry information. The event featured keynote speaker Tony Malkin from Empire State Realty Trust, and a distinguished panel including Gary Fescine of BlackRock, John J. Gilbert, III of Rudin Management Company, Kevin Reade from SL Green Realty Corp., and Alex Gazis of Viacom. The panel was moderated by Tom Krol of Donnelly Mechanical. We would also like to extend a special thank you to our event sponsors, including Aggressive Energy, Calpine Energy Solutions, CodeGreen, Conrad Engineers, Constellation: an Exelon Company, Donnelly Mechanical, Energywatch, Steven Winter Associates, Wiedenbach Brown and Yardi. This past month, we supported our fellow BOMA New York members at the 2018 Middle Atlantic Conference in Buffalo, New York. Congratulations to SL Green Realty Corp. and RXR Realty who both took home TOBY Awards. We look forward to attending the BOMA International Annual Conference & Expo in San Antonio, Texas from June 23-26th, where the international winners will be announced. We wish our local/regional winners all the best for the competition. Thank you to all the Annual Golf Outing sponsors for your contribution. BOMA New York appreciates your continuous support for another successful outing.

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
Since the U.S. Congress passed the historic tax reform last year, errors have been made, such as the depreciation on qualified leasehold improvements (previously given a permanent 15-year life in 2015) which reverted to a 39-year timeline due to an error. BOMA International is working with a coalition of other real estate groups to pass a technical correction for this issue. The 2018 BOMA International Conference & Expo is approaching on June 23-26. The conference will feature new spotlight sessions, with insight on building a positive and high-performing work culture. The International TOBY Award winners will also be announced. For more information or to register, click here. BOMA New York is pleased to announce we are now accepting applications for the 2018 Scholarship Program. Approaching the first half-year mark of the new City Council, we can expect an uptick in legislation that could impact BOMA/NY Members. Council Members and staff have been hard at work reintroducing old bills that expired at the end of last year, as well as new bills that they come up with. Reintroducing bills takes time and effort, but they are beginning to accumulate. The budget season has also slowed things down, with March devoted mostly to the Preliminary Budget, and May focused mostly on the Final Budget. With that process soon out of the way, no doubt the Council will turn to the business of hearing and passing legislation. We will of course be watching that process as it unfolds and making sure that BOMA/NY’s interests are known and our knowledge is utilized. In the meantime, other issues continue forward. For example, the City’s Task Force working on establishing commercial districts serviced by only one or a few waste haulers is creeping ahead. We have continued to attend these meetings but are also working with a range of allies to develop an alternative approach that could solve the problems of safety and environmental issues with a less intrusive policy approach. Last week we met with our allies and Brooklyn Councilman Robert Cornegy, Jr., who is interested in championing our approach. In Case You Missed It
BOMA New York hosted a special tour of its 2018 Pinnacle Earth Award Winner, 1515 Broadway. SL Green Realty Corp.’s 57-story and 2 million-square-foot building is a sustainability leader in New York City, earning LEED-EB Gold certification, Energy Star certification and a BOMA 360 award. The tower houses nearly 500,000 square feet of LEED-CI certified space, including the LEED-CI Platinum global headquarters of media giant Viacom. Click here to view photos from the event. Last month, BOMA New York members attended a panel discussion with some of New York City’s top leaders in energy efficiency and sustainability. The event featured a keynote address by Tony Malkin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Empire State Realty Trust, who discussed collaborative solutions to improve tenant energy efficiency and how Empire State Realty Trust implements these methods. We would like to thank our sponsors for this event, including Aggresive Energy, Calpine Energy Solutions, Code Green, Constellation: An Exelon Company, Donnelly Mechanical, EnergyWatch, Steven Winter Associates, Wiedenbach Brown and Yardi. Click here to view photos from the event. BOMA New York hosted its monthly Lunch & Learn where members learned about the Department of Buildings’ (DOB) newest initiative - the DOB NOW online platform. In front of the largest audience in Lunch & Learn history, the Brookbridge Consulting Services team, led by Bob Silvestri and Rich Imperatore, took the audience on a guided tour of the new DOB Now website and processes expected to roll out in the coming months. Looking at a side-by-side view of the differences between the old system and the new one, the Brookbridge team shared tips and recommendations, as well as what to expect as the DOB continues the transition to the online-only system. BOMA New York would like to extend a huge thank you to Bob, Rich, Brookbridge, and especially Vornado Realty Trust, for generously donating a larger space at One Penn Plaza to accommodate the overflow generated by such a relevant topic. On May 3rd & 4th, BOMA New York members attended the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) at the Hyatt Regency in Buffalo, NY. We’re pleased to announce that three BOMA NY member buildings have received The Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY) and they are: RXR Realty Group’s Starrett-Lehigh Building and SL Green Realty Corp.’s 635-641 Avenue of the Americas and 810 Seventh Avenue. On June 11th, BOMA New York members spent the day at Edgewood Country Club for our Annual Golf Outing. It was a fun day filled with golf, food, prizes and awards. The overall best golf score of the day was -12 by the foursome, Peter Frankel, Brad Gruber, Dan Wolfman and Ron Zeccardi, who received the Jack Degan Award. Vincent Punzone won the putting contest and Scott Besada won closest to the pin. Thank you to the companies who sponsored a hole and a special thanks to our prize contributors, Collins Building Services, Firequench Inc., Franklin Square Contractors, Vornado Office Management, Western Management and W.H. Christian & Sons. UPCOMING EVENTS
