ASSOCIATION UPDATES

Greetings to our esteemed members of the Connecticut Rural Water and Wastewater Association.  I hope that you enjoyed the holiday season with your respective friends and families.  Over the last few months, we have been working hard to grow the association’s membership, but we need your assistance.  If you know of a person or system that would like to become a member, please refer them to our website, www.ctrwwa.org, or have them contact our office for more information.

Two additional people were added to the team last month: Henry Cutler and Virginia Bragger.  Henry Cutler, a recent UCONN graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Geoscience and a Minor in Environmental Science: Global Environmental Change, accepted the role of Source Water Protection Specialist.  Virginia Bragger, a former Rhode Island Rural Water board member, accepted the role of Circuit Rider and will be servicing Connecticut and Rhode Island systems.  For any Source Water related issues, please contact Henry at hcutler@ctrwwa.org, and for any Circuit Rider related issues, please contact Virginia at virginia@rirwa.org. Please join us in congratulating them on their new roles. We are still recruiting for a Wastewater Technician.  If you know of anyone who is interested, please refer them to our website.  The position is also posted on NRWA’s website and Indeed.com.

Rural Water Rally is quickly approaching.  This year’s rally will be taking place in Washington, D.C. on Feb. 7-9. Connecticut will be sending a delegation which includes the state winner of the Great American Taste Test to represent the association as we meet with the Congressional delegation of Connecticut to discuss support for rural water funding programs, training, and technical assistance.  For more information about the 2023 Rural Water Rally, please go to Rural Water Rally 2023 | NRWA.

Lastly, if you have not renewed your 2023 membership, please consider doing so to take advantage of all the membership benefits. A reminder notice will be sent out soon.  If you have any questions about your membership or invoices, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Also, please save the date for the 2023 State Annual Conference to be held on June 8 at New Life Church, 350 High Hill Road, Wallingford, CT.  More information regarding registration, sponsorship and vendor opportunities, and classes/presentations will be coming soon and will be available on our website.

Yours in service,

TJ Clarke II, MBA

We are excited to invite you to our 2023 Water & Wastewater Conference & Trade Show on Thursday, June 8 in Wallingford, CT. Our conference typically draws anywhere from 130 to 160 water &
wastewater operators, managers, superintendents, and system owners. It is a great opportunity to showcase your products and services and get to know our members. The full Agenda will be available soon. For more information about becoming an exhibitor, see the form below.

Henry Cutler joined the CTRWWA team in 2023 as the Source Water Protection Specialist. He is very knowledgeable about our water sources, as he graduated from the University of Connecticut at Storrs with a bachelor’s degree in Geoscience and minored in Environmental Science. Previous relevant experience includes MS4 sampling and related duties as a wastewater consultant intern at Fuss & O'Neill. This internship is what provided the exposure and stimulation of Henry's desire to pursue a career in source water protection.

Bragger Construction, she started in the trenches laying pipe, repairing water breaks and installing water lines for commercial, residential and municipalities. Virginia has served on the Board for National Utility Contractors of RI, National Utility Contractors Association; VP New England, National Association of Women in Construction; RI Chapter President and multiple committee chairs, RI Backflow Preventer Association; Former Board Member, RI Rural Water Association; former Board Member.
