The PHTA Southern Arizona Chapter and PHTA Central Arizona Chapter have been busy recently! The Southern Arizona Chapter hosted a golf tournament on October 29 in Tucson; both chapters participated in their local Arizona Construction Career Days and introduced careers in the pool industry to thousands of students; and a virtual town hall was hosted last week about the ongoing drought.

The November issue of AQUA Magazine features a Tech Notes article about PHTA's technical reorganization and the creation of the Center of Technical Excellence. PHTA will rely on the high level of technical expertise of the volunteers and support staff as well as its current prominent position as an ANSI-Accredited Standards Developer.

The Office of Advocacy will host a roundtable to discuss the Department of Labor’s proposed rule that modifies its analysis for determining whether a worker is an employee or an independent contractor under the Fair Labor Standards Act. The roundtable will take place today, November 9 from 3-5 p.m. ET.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has issued a pre-publication Federal Register notice proposing to amend the test procedures for dedicated-purpose pool pumps (DPPPs) to incorporate by reference the latest version of the relevant industry standards, to codify DOE’s current enforcement policy regarding the scope of the DPPP test procedure pertaining to DPPPs that cannot be appropriately tested by the current DOE test procedure, to align DOE’s DPPP definitions with DOE’s corresponding DPPP motor definitions, and to remove an obsolete DOE DPPP test procedure appendix. The DOE is hosting a webinar on this topic on December 12 from 1-4 p.m. ET.
