EDUCATION AND EVENTS
It has been well over a year since the pandemic changed the way we do business. Zoom became our preferred method of communication, travel consisted of walking from your kitchen to the backyard, and our vocabulary increased with concepts like asynchronous learning and social distancing. Through all of this upheaval, the pool and hot tub industries experienced historic growth—which has increased the need for certified operators, water safety education, and an understanding of public health and safety issues related to pool ownership. It is within this landscape that PHTA is hosting the 18th World Aquatic Health Conference in person on October 13-15 in Houston, TX! With our first in-person meeting of the year, PHTA is pulling out all the stops to make sure you have plenty of opportunities to spend time with longtime friends and meet new people who share your passions. More than ever before, WAHC 2021 will be a celebration of what our industry has achieved over the past year and how we will continue to evolve and grow. PHTA is offering four of our most in-demand certification courses during PSP/Deck Expo, November 13-18 in Dallas, TX: —Certified Pool & Spa Operator (CPO) —Certified Hot Tub Technician (CHTT) —Certified Maintenance Specialist (CMS) —Certified Service Technician (CST) Certified professionals have a proven skillset and have shown a broad knowledge of their specialty. Certification reflects a deep personal commitment and a sense of accountability, inspiring credibility and confidence in the individual's professional knowledge.
The NDPA is excited to invite you to their new event, The Drowning Prevention Symposium. The new symposium will take place September 13-14 in San Diego, CA, and virtually via NDPA.org. The symposium is designed to enhance networking, collaboration, and better unify water safety efforts. PHTA members get a 25% discount on registration by using the code NDPA25Fall in the coupon code box.

PHTA is also engaged in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, advocating for current legislation that would adopt the APSP-14 Standard. The following are a few highlights from the past week:

We are sad to announce the passing of Wally James. He was one of the first people to take the CPO Instructor Course in 1985. He transformed the waterpark industry, particularly from a safety standpoint. Wally was a legal and risk management consultant and waterpark facility inspector, among many other roles he served in our industry and beyond. We send our condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. He will be very missed. In July 2001, amidst a thriving economy and a longing desire to take control of his own destiny in business, Joseph Michael Vassallo parlayed his 13 years’ experience in the pool industry to open Paragon Pools, a custom in-ground pool and spa design and construction company. Twenty years later, Paragon Pools’ list of accomplishments has even surpassed its founder’s expectations.
