Construction firms added 19,000 workers in February, as the number of unemployed construction workers was at the lowest February total since the series started in 2000, according to an analysis of new government data by the Associated General Contractors of America. Association officials said, however, that sluggish gains in nonresidential construction employment may reflect the fact contractors are having difficulty finding workers to keep up with growing demand.

"The overall picture for construction employment is very positive with robust job growth and very little unemployment," said Ken Simonson, the association's chief economist. "Yet it appears that many nonresidential construction firms have run out of people to hire to keep pace with demand for new projects."

The construction industry has embraced the use of filing sharing applications, but that brings potential risks, contends Mika Javanainen. To minimize the risks, he suggests that companies develop clear guidelines for employees to prevent security problems, and provide the right balance between data access and protection. If done correctly, the technology can boost productivity and enhance collaboration.

Ohio private employers have adjusted well to the new way BWC charges for workers' compensation coverage. Last year's change to prospective billing brought a much-needed move to the standard insurance industry practice of charging premiums in advance of extending coverage.

Events
ACI’s members united on March 10th to make the 87th Annual Meeting a huge success. The evening started with a new twist – a VIP reception. All members purchasing a table for the event were invited to send one representative to this VIP reception to meet delegates from Xavier University, Miami University, University of Cincinnati, CURT, Cincinnati USA/Regional Chamber, Procter and Gamble and International Paper.

600 members took advantage of great networking prior to dinner. Bob Goen, The Bob and Marianne Show on Warm 98, served as Master of Ceremonies by keeping the program on track and moving smoothly. Following recognition of the safety award winners by Safety Committee Chair Gary Coffey and presentation of the scholarship awards by Board Member Dan Denier, Greg Wnek from the Blue Book of Building and Construction announced keynote speaker, Josh Sneed. Josh delighted the audience with great humor and even a few belly laughs.

Thank you ACI members for making this event a great success.

This is a six-session course, with one course each month for six months. This series will use Coty Fournier’s book Inside Commercial Construction’s MVPs as a guide. Fournier speaks a language we can all relate to in this book, which you can keep as a career-long reference. Look at it as a mentor you can always reach. The design of this series allows participants to add value through personal experience. The time between sessions will allow for participants to practice new skills and deliver results and experiences to the group at the next session.
