Now that summer is in full swing with vacations and day trips locked down, there is so much fun to have. I look forward to a few camping trips and an ever-growing list of day trip destinations to explore. Time off is essential for many reasons. It restores mental and physical health. It is underestimated how prolonged stress and worry can significantly affect the human body and mind. Time away helps us reconnect with those who are most important to us: our family, friends, and loved ones. Nurturing our support system is important for our success. They are the foundation of our lives. Believe it or not, time off enhances our productivity and performance. Working while well-rested allows for better focus on the task at hand and allows ideas to flow and creativity to flourish.

On the professional side, I also have a few development programs on the docket. While it is related to work, I view professional development as a personal choice where you can explore topics you find interesting or topics that fill a knowledge gap. However, you view professional development, it enhances the work you do and the fulfillment you garner from said work. I am so proud that AHVAP’s professional development opportunities are ever evolving to meet the needs of our organization’s membership. AHVAP offers two separate micro-certifications: TeamSTEPPS and Medical Device VA Safety Specialist. Information about these courses can be found under the AHVAP Certification Center tab. AHVAP is also introducing the Professional Edge Book Club, with the first meeting scheduled on July 20th. Information to register can be found here. Of course, AHVAP’s largest event for professional development is the Annual Conference which will be held September 26th – 28th. This year’s theme is Tip of the Spear and will offer various classes, networking opportunities, and poster presentations by fellow VA professionals.

Each of these programs results from member requests combined with the solid financial outlook of AHVAP. Please see below for our latest reporting numbers:

  • Total Dues Income: $7,920

  • Total Income: $31,403.53

  • Expenses: $25,059.18

  • Total On-Hand AHVAP Assets: $217,228.89

As you can see, AHVAP is diligently increasing our offerings to our members to drive even more value for your annual membership.

There are so many ways in which organizations provide value to their members. Since each member will have a different mindset of what they find ‘of value,’ an organization like AHVAP must have multiple ways to engage their membership to ensure they provide this value and continue to be relevant. What do you value in your AHVAP membership?

Sincerely,

Anne Marie Orlando, MBA, RN, RCIS, CVAHP™
