If you work in health care, you may have a few new peers joining your medical team when the going gets tough. Recently, California became the first state to recognize that spiritual care is a standalone discipline in health care, and a trained and certified palliative care chaplain must be available for any patient who wants one. Nationwide, clergy jobs, many of which are based in health care settings, are projected to grow 13% by 2024.

Workplace "mission statements" don’t exactly light up the average office. But Gene Woods, who’s been at the helm of Carolinas HealthCare System for six months, can barely contain his excitement about the new mission and vision statements adopted by his board of commissioners. A mission statement is the reason why 60,000 Carolinas HealthCare employees go to work every day. They should be able to remember it and be inspired by it.

Patient satisfaction efforts need to shift away from simply "making patients happy," to delivering individualized treatment to optimize care. These efforts cannot be about improving everything for every patient, but delivering the right thing for the right patient when and where they need it.

Some of the questions you ask your human resources department could soon be answered by, well, non-humans. That’s the concept behind Talla, a Boston-area start-up that has developed a chatbot to do some of the more mundane tasks that HR departments carry out on a daily basis. That includes explaining company policy, surveying employees, collecting information or training new hires.
