Dear ASHHRA Colleagues,

I have been sitting in front of my computer, contemplating this message for some time now. I am not sure I have completely gotten on board with the fact that it is December and my time as ASHHRA President is almost up. I have had such an amazing year thanks to our members, business partners and the ASHHRA staff. This year has been such a gift, and I am very thankful that I was entrusted with this opportunity.

I want to express my gratitude to the members of the 2015-2016 Board of Directors who will be leaving board service at the end of this year:
Lee Byrd, treasurer
Tedd Trabert, at-large director
Deana Thomas, new-to-the-profession director

Their leadership, support and willingness to step in helped me be a better president and a better person. I learned so much from them.

As you look at that list, if you are wondering if I missed someone, I haven’t.  I just wanted to give my shout-out to Debbie Rubens separately. As you may recall, my professional life and physical address had a big change this year. Early on, I worried that I would not be able to do it all. Debbie effectively talked me back to a place of confidence and was available whenever I needed her throughout the year. Thank you, Debbie, for all that you have contributed (and will continue to contribute) to ASHHRA, the Board and me. Your presence on the board will be missed.

2016 has been another great year. We had an amazing conference in Grapevine, Texas. Catherine Carruth joined us as executive director. We moved several initiatives forward that will benefit ASHHRA and its members. The Cubbies won the World Series and the University of Washington made it into the playoffs for the National Championship in football. Life is good!

With that, I will now pass the baton to Gary Pastore.  I look forward to working under his leadership next year as he continues the great work.

I wish you all a wonderful holiday season and new year.
