Greetings, ASHHRA!
Here we are post Labor Day ... where did the summer go? I imagine many of you have been navigating back to school, a college drop off, or planning a winter warm weather get-away? For me, I started a new role the day after Labor Day. As an HR executive, and in my own personal journey, it’s been such a blessing to step back and do a check-in on what’s important to me for my next career move. A few things that I focused on include:
- Getting clear on your values and what's most important to you.
- Knowing your strengths and what gives you energy.
- Knowing your weaknesses and what depletes energy.
- Exploring the culture and leadership of the organization.
- Assessing authenticity and integrity with the organizations you are considering.
- Getting to know the people, as this is where the magic lies :)
- And then asking yourself this question: Can I make an impact here?
Those of you that know me know that I am always focused on impact. Do we make a difference in the lives of others? We know in healthcare that we can and do make a difference. For us in HR, it starts with our leaders, our employees and providers, who then provide that direct care to our customers, patients or clients. An ASHHRA colleague of mine posted the quote below on LinkedIn as I was writing this note.
In HR we have the opportunity, privilege and responsibility to make a difference in the lives of others. Every single day. In every single touchpoint.
I am excited to have accepted a new role to serve, and chose an organization that checked the boxes for me. My hope for you is that each day you go back to your values and your “why.” This practice will keep us focused on bringing our best each day, even during these challenging workforce times.
