Our afternoons are filled with soothing ocean sounds juxtaposed by the sounds of kids running and playing. The cold beverage only remains cold for minutes but the coolness is more refreshing than ever. There are no school events to rush off to, no soccer games to travel to, no critical subject matter to dissect and no 5:30 a.m. alarm clock. Summertime is here and life is good.

Schools are out and we are into SUMMER. Gotta love that 90-plus degree weather! Welcome to the 17th piece of my Trustee report series where I share a few notes and items from our national organization over the last month or so, and remind people who may have lapsed in their membership to rejoin (and that payment options are available). Please feel free to contact me at Trustee@FLASLA.org if you have any questions or concerns about ASLA issues.

SPECIAL SESSION - BUDGET The Legislature began its Special Session to pass a budget last week. The federal government has agreed to a $1 billion continuation of the Low Income Pool (LIP) Program, which is half of the requested $2 billion. Additionally, the Florida House defeated the Senate Florida Health Insurance Affordability Exchange (FHIX) yesterday. Both issues affected budget allocations which were released late last week. Conference Committees have concluded their meetings, and unresolved issues are being considered by the Appropriations Chairs. The Special Session is scheduled to run through June 20.
