PRESIDENTS MESSAGE (June)

Our afternoons are filled with soothing ocean sounds juxtaposed by the sounds of kids running and playing. The cold beverage only remains cold for minutes but the coolness is more refreshing than ever. There are no school events to rush off to, no soccer games to travel to, no critical subject matter to dissect and no 5:30 a.m. alarm clock. Summertime is here and life is good.

While family life enters the slow lane, the work of the Chapter continues in the fast lane. Last month we conducted our Design Awards jury in Ft. Lauderdale. The discussion was engaging yet fun. I would like to personally thank all of our volunteers, jurors (Tammy Cook, Todd McCurdy, Glenn Acomb, Grace Perdomo and Dick Rogers), EDSA for hosting and Ebru Ozer for chairing the committee. I look forward to handing out the awards at Conference next month.

I am pleased to announce that after months of discussion, the Florida Greenways and Trail Foundation has agreed to have an ASLA Florida Chapter member participate on their Board. Dale Allen, Executive Directer of the Florida Greenways and Trails Foundation, and myself believe it is important to have Landscape Architects involved in what is probably the largest 'park' currently being built in the state. We will begin looking for a volunteer to fill this new position in the coming weeks.

Early Bird registration is quickly coming to end (June 19th). Be sure to sign up for what will prove to be another great conference. I look forward to seeing everyone in Orlando.

As always feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.

David Ferris
