Print this Article | Send to Colleague

The Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) is leading a special task force to address the growing challenges to the state’s forest products industry. At the direction of Governor Brian Kemp, GFC Director Johnny Sabo is working with state agencies, academic institutions, and industry partners to develop a strategic path forward. The Task Force will also seek input and feedback directly from the forestry community – landowners, industry, state and federal partners, and beyond.

Outdoor burning restrictions in 54 northern Georgia counties have been lifted as of Oct. 1, 2025. The Georgia Environmental Protection Division limits burning in these areas from May 1 until the end of September to control emission-related ozone levels that may rise in summer. Visit GaTrees.org for details.

GFC’s popular #Leaf Watch feature runs through October. GFC foresters in the northwest, central, and northeast Georgia mountains report on specific species colors and locations for the best weekly leaf peeping. Visit GaTrees.org and our social media channels every Thursday for updates.
