The Port of Lake Charles has received a $10 million federal TIGER grant for the expansion of its Bulk Terminal 1. The Port of Longview and Haven Energy are "finding common commercial ground" in Haven’s proposal to develop a propane/butane export terminal, reports Port Chief Executive Officer Geir-Eilif Kalhagen. The Port of Virginia has reopened Portsmouth Marine Terminal (PMT) to cargo operations after nearly three years of inactivity.

PortMiami announced September 10 that its restack facility is now open to handle containers and cargo from all carriers. The opening of an overpass on September 4 marked the completion of the 70-kilometre/43.5-mile Roberts Bank Rail Corridor that connects Port Metro Vancouver’s Deltaport Terminal with the North American rail network. The Virginia Port Authority has received a $15 million TIGER grant for a new intermodal gate complex at Norfolk International Terminals.

Retailers concerned by the lack of a West Coast longshoremen’s contract will continue to bring merchandise into the country at above-average levels this month but volume will drop from the record set in August, according to the monthly Global Port Tracker report released September 9 by the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates.

Fibria Celulose, a Brazilian pulp and paper company, delivered its first cargo to the Port of Philadelphia on September 10 during a ceremony attended by Governor Tom Corbett and various other port and local dignitaries. San Diego’s 2014-2015 cruise season opened Friday, September 12, with the arrival of the Disney Wonder at Broadway Pier.

Successful entries in AAPA’s 2014 Environmental Improvement and Information Technology award competitions have been named following a rigorous entry and selection process. The winners in these three programs, together with the 21 ports that submitted successful entries in AAPA’s 2014 Communications Awards program (announced on June 6) will be recognized during the awards luncheon on Thursday, Nov. 13, at AAPA’s 103rd Annual Convention and Exposition in Houston, which runs Nov. 9-13 and is being hosted by the Port of Houston Authority.

Port Freeport was has received an award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its 2013 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. PortTech Los Angeles announced TransPower will receive the first Advancing Innovation Award. Port Tampa Bay recently joined Sociedad Portuaria Regional de Cartagena (SPRC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in which they agree to work together "in developing business initiatives of mutual interest, exchange of trade information, and establishing new ocean carrier services between the two ports."
