Swire Shipping will begin calling the Port of Everett in mid-December, providing direct breakbulk service every 31 days to Fiji, Australia and New Zealand. The Nanaimo Port Authority has secured scrap metal processor ABC Recycling Ltd as a client at its Duke Point operation. After more than three years of negotiations, the Port of Vancouver USA and Northwest Packing Co. have agreed on terms and conditions necessary to extend the food processing company’s lease for an additional 25 years.

The latest Global Port Tracker report expects containerized imports will tail off from their record highs in August and September, but monthly growth from year earlier levels will continue at least through March. Industry at Port Fourchon in 2013 generated more than $2.8 billion in sales revenue and $650 million in household earnings in the state of Louisiana, according to a newly released update of a 2008 economic impact report. Port Saint John’s booming container trade experienced yet another month of double-digit growth in October.

Royal Caribbean’s Explorer of the Seas opened its 2014-2015 season of Caribbean cruises from its Port Canaveral homeport on November 15. Port Metro Vancouver ended another strong Alaskan season October with a seven-month tally of 812,095 revenue passengers and 243 cruise ship calls – a tad more than 2013 and overall its best year since 2009. Port Everglades’ cruise passenger count topped 4 million during the fiscal year ending September 31, including 3.88 million sailing on multi-day itineraries.

Acting to relieve cargo delivery delays, the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners on November 13 approved the use of Port of Long Beach property as a temporary site for the storage of empty containers. A comprehensive Tier 1 Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Cross-Harbor Freight Program released November 13 by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the U.S. Federal Administration identifies alternatives to improve the movement of freight across the Hudson River and New York Harbor.

The Virgin Islands Port Authority (VIPA) has successfully closed on a bond financing. Specifically, it refunded Marine Revenue Bonds, Series 2003A (AMT) and C (tax-exempt) in the amount of $24.5 million. Standard &Poor’s has assigned an unenhanced rating for the Virgin Islands Port Authority Marine Revenue Bonds of "BBB " with a stable outlook.
