James A. Walters was elected chairman of the board of the Georgia Port Authority at the board’s regular meeting on June 23. The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners has selected Jon W. Slangerup, a veteran corporate executive with extensive experience in global logistics and environmental technologies, as the chief executive of the Port of Long Beach. Canada’s Governor General in Council has reappointed Anne Bancroft-Jones to the board of directors of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority for a third three-year term, effective June 23, 2014. Laney J. Chouest was sworn in as a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans during the board’s meeting on June 26. The Redwood City Council has reappointed one of America’s longest serving port commissioners and appointed newcomer Dick Dodge to the five-member Redwood City Port Commission.

The Aruba Ports Authority (APA) will relocate its container operations to its brand new Barcadera multi-cargo facility, which is due to open by the end of 2015. Port Canaveral has concluded a 35-year agreement with GT USA to operate and develop its container and multipurpose cargo terminal. The Virgin Islands Port Authority (VIPA) is moving forward with the dredging, development and possible expansion of the Gallows Bay Marine Facility on St. Croix. The Port of Vancouver USA is planning to market nearly 100 acres at Terminal 5 following the expiration on June 16 of an agreement that set aside the property for BHP Billiton's exclusive use.

A Port Performance Task Force on June 24 released a report containing 23 recommendations aimed at reducing truck congestion and air emissions in the Port of New York and New Jersey, improving customer service for truckers and other port stakeholders, and enhancing the flow of goods from the port to the marketplace. Port Everglades is planning for the year 2033 with an updated road map for future growth over the next 20 years that identifies $1.6 billion in capital investments to improve productivity for cargo, cruise and petroleum businesses that operate at the South Florida seaport.

The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) in May experienced its busiest month ever for the movement of containers and total cargo tonnage. Port of Tacoma reports container volumes increased in May for the third straight month, up 16.9 percent from a year ago to 165,053 TEUs.
