Carnival Cruise Lines will resume year-round cruises from the Port of Baltimore in March 2015 with a ship retrofitted with scrubbers designed to reduce fuel exhaust emissions. The Galveston Wharves' Board of Trustees approved a five-year agreement with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. on January 27 that will generate at least $1.86 million in annual operating revenues for the Port of Galveston. Port Everglades has once again been selected "Best U.S. Homeport" by cruise travel magazine Porthole.

Port of Hueneme and Global Auto Processing Services (GAPS) have agreed to extend GAPS's lease agreement with the port for an additional five years. Port Tampa Bay will collaborate with the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) on strategies to enhance port planning, in line with MARAD's developing "Strong Ports" initiative.

The Georgia Ports Authority reports its facilities statewide handled nearly 14.4 million short tons of cargo during the first half of fiscal year 2014. The Ports of Indiana handled 8.3 million tons of cargo at its three ports in calendar 2013, a 20 percent increase from the year before. Mexico’s ports handled a record 287.9 million metric tons of cargo in 2013, an increase of 1.6 percent compared to 2012, and more than 2.6 million metric tons of cargo moved through the Port of Milwaukee in 2013, a 30 percent increase from 2012.

AAPA's Shifting International Trade Routes workshop brought together a bevy of experts on international trade and investments, while AAPA and the U.S. Maritime Administration will hold an informal "brainstorming session" from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on February 19 in San Diego on its port planning and investment toolkit project.
