AAPA joined the U.S. Maritime Administration on September 25 in signing a cooperative agreement to work together in developing port investment plan guidance, references and best practices. MarAd has obtained some year-end FY 2013 funding to kick start the project and has requested additional funding in next year’s budget.  The Port of Hueneme and Del Monte Fresh Produce celebrated their 34-year partnership by executing a third modification of their 1995 contract. Ford will soon begin exporting vehicles to China via Auto Warehousing Company’s (AWC) facility at the Port of Portland’s Terminal 6.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) on September 26 designated Masonville Cove in Baltimore as the nation’s first Urban Wildlife Refuge Partnership and with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and The Chesapeake Bay Trust will dedicate a total of $55,000 in support of the partnership. The Port of Houston Authority is introducing a smartphone mobile application that enables customers to check on the status of containers and their availability for pickup at the port authority's Bayport and Barbours Cut container terminals.

 The Great Lakes cruise industry will experience substantial capacity increase in 2014 with the entry of six quite different ships, including the brand new Pearl Seas Mist and the return of MS Hamburg. Port Saint John, now into its 25th cruise season, on September 23 greeted its two millionth cruise tourist - a guest aboard Royal Caribbean's Grandeur of the Seas.
